The year 2023 brought its ups and downs for Asian equity markets. While the performance of Asia ex Japan equities has been dragged down by China and Thailand, Taiwan, India and Korea were outperformers posting double-digit returns. ASEAN markets underperformed the broader Asian region.
However, Emerging and Asian economies are expected to be more resilient next year, given that rate hikes in the region have been more modest, and inflation is mostly back to target levels, writes Eastspring Investments in a market outlook.
“China could become a bright spot for investors once again should growth surprise on the upside,” opines the asset manager.
