China poised for reopening?

In China, the population is getting agitated and taking to the streets against the strict zero Covid policy. There is no way around reopening now, writes Mirae Asset Global Investments.

Based on Mirae’s analysis, Covid cases caused by the Omicron mutation are less severe and domestically produced vaccines are more effective. Furthermore, vaccination rates have also increased among the high-risk population, especially the elderly.

“In our view, the recent adjustment to China’s Covid-19 measures are a step in the right direction. Following the Politburo Standing Committee’s (PSC) meeting on 10 November, the State Council released a notice to loosen pandemic controls while insisting on a dynamic zero-Covid strategy,” opines the research team of Mirae Asset.
