    Japan plans test with near-full baseball stadiums

    With the Olympic Games on the horizon, Japan is planning baseball games with near-full capacity. The Yokohama Stadium, with 34,000 seats, will host three baseball games with a spectator capacity of around 80 percent this month. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, major sporting events in Japan are currently only permitted with a maximum capacity of 50%.

    With the scheduled baseball games, the government now wants to examine whether these restrictions can be relaxed. Yokohama Stadium is the main venue for the baseball and softball events at the 2020 Olympics – which have been rescheduled to 2021.
