    Thailand tourism in crisis

    The Covid 19 crisis has brought the tourism sector in Thailand to a standstill. Although the kingdom is gradually reopening – e.g. bars, shops, nightclubs – the borders are still closed for tourists. In 2019, Thailand counted almost 40 million foreign visitors, with revenues of around USD 60 billion. Of the 1 million beds on offer, most are currently empty.

    The president of the Tourism Council of Thailand is warning that almost a third of tourism-related businesses are likely to be permanently closed.
