    No Corona Baby Boom in China

    Despite lockdowns and propaganda by the state media: in China, the number of newborns fell by 15% last year. 10.3 million babies were born in the People’s Republic in 2020, according to preliminary figures – compared to 11.79 million in 2019. And the numbers seem set to continue declining in the future: the National Health Commission warned in its latest study that there will be fewer Chinese as early as 2027. According to the study, the crude birth rate is expected to slip from 1.76% in 2020 to negative territory before or in 2027, to -2.18% around 2035.
